Temple was built using 130,000 metric tons of granite, which was transported to the site from more than 50 kilometers away using elephants. No adhesive like cement, tar, etc, was used for the construction. The whole structure is made using the interlocking technique of stones.
Temple is designed in such a way that on the day of the summer solstice, the sun’s rays fall directly on the Shiva Lingam (the symbol of Lord Shiva) inside the sanctum sanctorum (Garbha Grah). Temple attracts thousands of visitors every year, particularly during the festival of Maha Shivaratri.
